Visitors to Catoctin Mountain Park to experience road detours on MD Route 77

THURMONT, Md. – On or about Tuesday, September 3, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close portions of MD 77 (Foxville Road) between Pryor Road (in Thurmont) and Stottlemeyer Road (approximately five miles west of Thurmont) to expedite work on culvert replacements.  MD 77 will be closed to through traffic and detoured from approximately September 3 through September 30.  The entire $2.1 million project is expected to be complete summer 2020.

Motorists using MD 77 to and from US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) will be detoured to MD 550 (Sabillasville Road) and Foxville Deerfield Road.

After September 30, MD 77 will reopen to travel in both directions with flaggers directing traffic on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and occasionally overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. In addition to replacing the culverts, crews will clean existing drain pipes and inlets. Crews will also pave and
re-stripe the road. MDOT SHA’s contractor will use detour signs, barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during the project.
