Thurmont, Md. – Due to increased security measures, portions of Catoctin Mountain Park will be closed at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17. Closures are scheduled to continue through approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Park Central Road will be closed between Thurmont Vista and Manahan Road. Trails to Hog Rock Overlook, Blue Ridge Summit Vista, and portions of the Catoctin National Recreation Trail will be closed. Chestnut Picnic Area and the Spicebush Nature Trail will also be closed. All other roads and trails, as well as all campgrounds and cabin camps, will remain open.
Parking lots at the visitor center will be open but may fill up early in the day. Additional parking is available on the west side of the park at Owens Creek Picnic Area. Trail maps are available at trailheads throughout the park. For more information on the availability of park facilities, please call 301-663-9388 or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/cato.
