In an effort to ensure the safety and protection of the public, park staff, resources, and facilities, the Magnolia Plantation unit of Cane River Creole National Historical Park will be closed to the public starting Monday, August 14, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development begins to repair LA Hwy 119. A section of LA 119 has been closed since 2018 due to an embankment slide that has compromised the roadway. The closure of Magnolia Plantation is expected to last at least 2 months, though may be extended longer depending on the construction schedule and site conditions. The purpose of the project is to stabilize the river embankment and restore vehicular access for thru-traffic for the surrounding residential and farming communities.

Visitors can still experience the Oakland Plantation unit of Cane River Creole National Historical Park which will remain open. The grounds of Oakland Plantation are open daily for self-guided tours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the Oakland Main House is open for self-guided tours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Park staff conducts guided tours of the plantation grounds daily from Wednesday through Sunday. In addition, the park offers tours on the NPS App. The.
