Cane River Creole National Historical Park and Cane River National Heritage Area will join with the International Game Fish Association to host a free learn-to-fish clinic at Oakland Plantation. Clinics are open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8.“Cane River Creole National Historical Park is pleased to host this free learn-to-fish clinic,” said Chief of Interpretation Barbara Justice. “the International Game Fish Association promises fun for the whole family!”
This FREE clinic will be held at Oakland Plantation from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Participants will learn basic fishing techniques and ethical angling practices through the International Game Fish Association’s Passports to Fishing program!. All supplies will be provided, however a basic fishing license is required for adults (16 years+) who would like to participate in fishing. Fishing is catch-and-release only. The grounds of Oakland and Magnolia Plantations are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nearly 80 original buildings remain, many open for self-guided tours including several that are historically furnished. The park also offers a cell phone tour. Park staff conducts daily tours of the plantation grounds and historically furnished rooms in the Oakland Main House.
