Building for fish hatchery

Lindsey Adams, USFWS/USFWS

Cane River Lake, once was the primary channel of the Red River, is a now 35 mile lake that is home to many creatures big and small.

The nearby Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery is one of 69 National Fish Hatcheries in the United States, and the only one in Louisiana. This hatchery having opened in 1931, has raised many different species of fish over the years. You can read about the current species they are working with in recovery and restorations efforts on their webpage, along with information on how you can visit.
