Reef Ride Bike Days 2026

TORREY, Utah — Capitol Reef National Park will host the return of its popular Reef Ride cycling event on Sept. 19 and 26, offering visitors a rare chance to experience the Scenic Drive free of vehicle traffic. From sunrise until 3 p.m. each day, the road will be reserved for cyclists — including Class 1, 2 and 3 e‑bikes — along with hikers and runners.

Time: Sunrise to 3 p.m., when the road reopens to vehicles
Location: Capitol Reef National Park, Scenic Drive

The Scenic Drive is a 7.9‑mile paved route showcasing Capitol Reef’s signature cliffs, canyons and the western edge of the Waterpocket Fold. Beginning near the visitor center, the road provides access to Grand Wash, Capitol Gorge, and Pleasant Creek. Participants can expect dramatic sandstone walls, sweeping vistas and a peaceful, vehicle‑free experience.

The road climbs to 5,977 feet and includes moderately steep grades suitable for a range of cycling abilities. Because the route is out‑and‑back, riders can complete a round‑trip distance of approximately 15.8 miles.

Safety Guidance
Helmet: Cyclists are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet.
Hydration: Water is limited along the route, bring plenty.
Visibility Gear: Wearing bright clothing and lights or reflectors help keep you visible.
Trail Etiquette: Cyclists should yield to pedestrians and runners; administrative vehicles may be present.

Weather: Conditions can shift quickly, be prepared and check the forecast.
E‑bikes: Charge your e-bike fully before arrival; no charging stations are available.
