Applications are being requested for Capitol Reef National Park’s 2018 Artist-in-Residence program. We are seeking applicants for the park’s Artist-in-Residence program who will be able to express the park’s resources and meanings in a unique way that engages the public through a variety of artistic mediums such as painting, drawing or photography. The goal of this program is to appreciate the aesthetic value of National Parks like Capitol Reef.

New for 2018 the park is offering one night sky photographer residency for two or four weeks Jan/Feb or May/June. As an International Dark Sky Park, we are interested in exploring new ways to appreciate the parks dark skies and to collect night sky photography that can assist the park’s scientific efforts in documenting the night sky quality with the goal of conservation.

The park also offers a choice of residency of two or four weeks during the months of March and October for visual and performing artists, writers and composers.

The selected artist will be given rent-free use of a furnished park house and will also receive a $500 contribution from The Entrada Institute to assist with travel and supply expenses. This Artist-in-Residence program is supported by Capitol Reef National Park, in partnership with the Capitol Reef Natural History Association and The Entrada Institute.
“This residency program is a chance for the artistic community to share park resources through the eyes of an artist,” said Capitol Reef National Park Acting Superintendent Pam Rice.

For those who are interested in applying, the online application is now available at https://www.nps.gov/care/getinvolved/artist-in-residence.htm. Application materials must be received by Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
