Major sediment slump changes conditions in Cataract Canyon

MOAB, UT—Another major sediment slump in Cataract Canyon has altered water flow in the main channel and created a new small rapid. 

The slump occurred in Narrow Canyon at river mile 175.1 sometime between Oct 25th and Oct 29th. Approximately 300-350 meters of shoreline slid from the river-left bank into the river channel.  

Sediment and mud continue to move and alter river conditions for a three-mile stretch upstream of the slump. Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) should be worn between Dark Canyon and the North Wash Access point because of the rapidly changing conditions. 

Coordinates of the new small rapid are 37.888428, -110.296780.
