Fatality at Canyonlands National Park

MOAB, UT— On Wednesday June 28, 2023, Grand County Dispatch received a report of an unresponsive female in Willow Flat Campground at the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park. National Park Service rangers, Grand County EMS, and San Juan County Sheriff's Office personnel responded to the scene where the visitor was pronounced deceased. San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are conducting a cooperative investigation into the manner and cause of death. Next of kin notifications have been made. The deceased is a 61-year-old female from Indiana.
