Superintendent Barclay Trimble announced today that beginning Friday, November 1 seasonal ORV routes will reopen in Cape Hatteras National Seashore unless they are temporarily closed due to a resource closure, per the park's Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Management Plan. The seasonal ORV routes on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island reopen on November 1 at 12:01 a.m. (or 7:00 a.m. if posted sea turtle nests remain on that particular route.)A permit is required for any off-road vehicle use in Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The following ORV routes reopen on November 1:

·0.1 of a mile south of Rodanthe Pier to Ramp 23 (Tri-Village beaches)

·Ramp 34 to Ramp 38 (Avon)

·East Hatteras Village boundary to Ramp 55 (Hatteras Village beach)

Visitors should note that resource closures are still in effect for the seasonal ORV routes located in the Frisco Village beach and Ocracoke Campground areas, and will be driveable as soon as the few remaining turtle nests hatch.Closure conditions may change in the field on short notice and the posted protection areas are closed to all ORV, pedestrian and pet entry. On-site signage of a closed area will be clearly marked in the field with "symbolic fencing" consisting of wooden or carsonite posts, closure signs, string and black filter fencing.
