The training dates for the new pilot "Beach Ambassador" program have been set for the 2007 summer season. The program’s goal is to increase preventative lifesaving efforts through educational materials and personal contacts with the visiting public to Cape Hatteras National Seashore and village beaches. The program will educate and inform the public of potential hazards associated with beach recreation, in particular rip currents, beach and soundside water safety and surf and storm conditions. The park is recruiting for a cadre of volunteers from the surrounding communities in Dare County. Training on beach and water safety conditions will be provided: Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm, at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Park Headquarters Building, 1401 National Park Drive, Manteo, NC.
Additional training dates have been set for: Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23, 2007 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each day Rodanthe Waves Salvo Community Center in Rodanthe, NC Saturday, July 21, 2007 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Nags Head Fire Station in Nags Head.
