Superintendent Barclay Trimble announced that beginning Saturday, April 20, 2013 the climbing fee for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will increase for the season.Climbing tickets for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for senior citizens (62 or older), children 11 years of age and under, and those holding a National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Access Pass.Tickets are available on a first come/first served basis and can only be purchased in-person at the site the day of the climb.There are no advance ticket sales for the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.Children must be at least 42" tall.Children under 12 must be escorted by a person at least 16 years old. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse fee has not increased in five years.The National Park Service accepted public comments for thirty days on the proposed fee increase.The public comment period ended March 9, 201.All comments were reviewed and included as part of the decision making process. The revenue generated at the lighthouse is used to support staff and maintenance at the site.It is also used to construct or maintain park facilities throughout the Seashore.
