The Outer Banks Group Drew More Than Three Million Visits in 2016

National parks within the Outer Banks Group recorded 3,162,854 visits in 2016, the National Park Service’s centennial year.

“In 2016, all three national parks on the Outer Banks received increased visitation, including the largest yearly visitation total at Cape Hatteras National Seashore since 2003,” said Outer Banks Group Superintendent David Hallac.

Visitation Highlights at Cape Hatteras National Seashore:

  • 2,411,711 visits in 2016 compared to 2,274,635 visits in 2015

Visitation Highlights at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site:

  • 292,367 visits in 2016 compared to 289,885 visits in 2015

Visitation Highlights at Wright Brothers National Memorial:

  • 458,776 visits in 2016 compared to 437,184 visits in 2015
