As the National Park Service continues to celebrate National Park Week, April 16-24, the Outer Banks Group commends Volunteer Hillary Harrison. Hillary began volunteering last March as a receptionist, with responsibilities that included greeting and answering phone calls from the public. This winter she volunteered in the Special Use Permit Office, assisting with the preparation of permits and correspondence, and working with applicants. Volunteering is a great way to gain experience within the National Park Service and Harrison continues to build her resume with such involvement. “I enjoy volunteering because it allows me to gain and perform skills that I may not have the opportunity otherwise,” Harrison said. When she is not volunteering for the agency, she is working as a National Park Service seasonal employee at the Bodie Island Lighthouse. “She is a great worker and a quick study,” said Volunteer Supervisor Steve Thompson. “Hillary’s a phenomenal asset to our team!" The Outer Banks Group welcomes volunteers. To view a list of current volunteer opportunities, visit www.volunteer.gov. Or call 252-475-9042 for more information. |
