In addition to June signaling the start to another summer season, it also marks the beginning of World Oceans Month. Our oceans make up approximately 70 percent of the earth, making it one of our largest natural treasures, a source of food and energy, and a diverse habitat for more than one million species of plants and animals.

To celebrate the oceans and its resources, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is hosting a beach cleanup at the Coquina Beach Bathhouse on Bodie Island from 9-11 am, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

Snacks, water bottles, and trash bags will be provided. Bring leather gloves and sunscreen. Wear appropriate clothing, including hats and toe closed shoes. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them.
