Many beach routes likely to be impacted by distant Hurricane Earl over next several days

September 08, 2022 Posted by: Michael Barber

Due to distant Hurricane Earl, ocean overwash is expected to impact many Cape Hatteras beach routes over the next several days. Even though Hurricane Earl is forecast to stay east of Bermuda, its sustained 105 mph winds (as of 9/8 at 8 a.m.) are producing large waves and dangerous rip currents along our coast. Some may remember the beach overwash associated with distant Hurricane Teddy in Sept. 2020 [Photo].

Visit the NWS Newport/Morehead City website for additional weather information and updates.
