Ruins Do'ins February-March 2013 Special Events Schedule
COOLIDGE, AZ - Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, will host several guest speakers and demonstrators in February and March, in addition to regular guided tours, and showings of the film, Casa Grande: House of Many Stories each half hour. In honor of Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month in March, the Monument will also host special tours of the park's backcountry area that is normally closed to the public. The cost of all of these programs is covered by your entrance fee to the National Monument. The fee for visitors over fifteen years-old is $5.00. Children fifteen and under are free. All America the Beautiful Federal Interagency passes are accepted and sold, including Senior Passes, Access Pass, Active Military Passes, and Annual Passes.
February 16 & 17, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Navajo artisan Amos Hasken from Cameron, Arizona will demonstrate making traditional weapons and jewelry in the patio demonstration area of the visitor center. He will have jewelry and traditional weapons for sale on site.
February 23, 1:00 p.m. presentation, and 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m. demonstration of historical items related toThe Anza Trail. Rick Collins will present "The Expedition of Juan Bautista de Anza." Join Collins in the visitor center auditorium for a presentation and video to retrace the steps of Anza on his historic expedition of 1775-1776. Learn what discoveries were made and hardships endured as these intrepid travelers made their way from Tubac, Arizona to San Francisco, California
March 2, 9:00 a.m. Archaeology Month backcountry tour to the "Clan House" section of the park. Participants must walk approximately 1.5 miles over uneven terrain. (Sorry, this area is not wheelchair accessible.) Each tour is limited to 10 persons. Advance registration is required!
March 2 & 3, 1:00 p.m. presentation, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. demonstration. At 1:00 p.m. Don Wells will present a program "Foods of the Superstitions and Plants of the Sonoran Desert," in the visitor center auditorium. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wells and Jean Groen will provide home-made samples of their foods and you will have opportunity to learn about and purchase foods and jellies made from plants that grow in the Superstition Mountains. Books by these authors, including Foods of the Superstition Mountains, Plants of the Sonoran Desert, and The Adventures of Flat Cactus Jack, will be available for sale at the Western National Parks Association bookstore in the visitor center.

March 9 & 10, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Photography workshop with Charlene Rule. Rule has been an award winning photographer for 42 years. This 3-hour workshop will focus on16 ways to take better pictures and how to use natural light for nature photography in National Parks. Workshop limited to 15 people. Advance registration is required!

March 16 & 17, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Navajo artisan Harry Benally from Sheep Springs, New Mexico will demonstrate woodcarving of traditional juniper sculptures in the patio demonstration area of the visitor center. He will also be selling his carved sculptures.

March 23 & 24, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hopi carver Kenneth Quanimptewa from Hotevilla, Arizona will demonstrate hand-carving his authentic Hopi Kachinas in the patio demonstration area of the visitor center. He will have kachina dolls for sale.

Casa Grande Ruins National Monument protects the multi-story 'Great House' and the ruins of other ancient structures built by the ancient people of the Sonoran Desert over 800 years ago.
