Admission to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument Will be Free from April 22-26, During Annual National Parks Week

COOLIDGE, AZ -Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, along with 400 other national park sites, will celebrate National Parks Week from April 20th to Sunday, April 28th.   Admission will be FREE from Monday, April 22nd to Friday, April 26th.

"This year's theme, 'Did you know…?,' provides a fun way to discover the wonders of America's national parks," said National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis. "For example:  Did you know that there are now national parks in all 50 states?  Did you know that national parks include seashores, battlefield, and historic homes? Did you know that the country's highest peak, lowest point, tallest tree, deepest lake and longest cave are in national parks?  Did you know that you probably live within an hour or two of a national park?"

One highlight of National Park Week is National Junior Ranger Day, which will be celebrated at Casa Grande Ruins on Saturday, April 27, with Michael Reynolds from Ceramics from the Heart.  Ceramics from the Heart will feature American Indian related fired ceramic pieces that children can paint. A small fee will be charged depending on which items are chosen to be painted.  Participants in the April 27th program will earn a free Junior Ranger prize and entry into a one day drawing for a Rangerland Puzzle and a special metal Junior Ranger badge.  In addition, all children who participate in the self-guided Junior Ranger program during National Park Week will earn a patch and will be eligible to enter a drawing for a Rangerland Game and special metal Junior Ranger badge.

Ceramics from the Heart will also be available on Friday, April 26 and Sunday, April 28, for anyone who would like to paint a souvenir. There will not be special Junior Ranger awards given on these days, however children may still complete the Casa Grande Ruins Junior Ranger book for a patch and enter the drawing for the National Parks Week prizes.

Casa Grande Ruins National Monument protects the multi-story 'Great House' and the ruins of other ancient structures built by the ancestral people of the Sonoran Desert over 800 years ago.  The Monument is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Directions and additional information are available on the Monument's website,, or you may call (520) 723-3172.
