Ranger-Guided Programs and Performance Events on Tap for July and August at the National Seashore

Kayaking is one of many programs being offered by Cape Cod Natonal Seashore rangers, volunteers, and partners this summer. Printed activity guides will be available at seashore visitor centers in late June.

WELLFLEET, Mass. – This summer, Cape Cod National Seashore will again offer a variety of ranger-guided programs and guest performances to help park neighbors and visitors enjoy and understand the seashore’s many resources.

“People are looking for experiences that connect them to this special place,” said Chief Park Interpreter Sue Moynihan. “Seashore resources are diverse, as are the interests of our visitors and neighbors. We try to offer something for everyone—from the first-time guest or those who are short on time, to someone who visits every year and is looking for a deeper exploration.”

There are short talks on the terrace at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham and the observation decks at Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown. Several historic buildings have open houses, and both short and long hikes are offered. Water-based programs include kayak tours, surfcasting lessons, salt marsh explorations, and canoe trips on Salt Pond. The Cape Cod Ninja Warrior family challenge, the Amazing Race in Provincetown, and beach campfires are popular with families. Interdisciplinary yoga sessions are offered by long-time rangers and certified yoga instructors at Nauset Light Beach and Herring Cove Beach. Indoor programs showcase Outer Cape history and nature. Most programs are free, and many are accessible. Throughout the summer, interpretive rangers will also be at high-visitation areas, such as beaches, on the grounds of lighthouses, and on trails, to talk with the public about the seashore. In addition, park partners offer tours and open houses at Nauset and Highland lights and the Highland House Museum.

The revitalized outdoor amphitheater at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham will again host an extensive schedule of free performance events featuring music, storytelling, and live theater. Guest performers include the Navy Band Northeast’s rock band, Rhode Island Sound, from Newport, RI; Shakespeare Under the Stars performing “Romeo and Juliet”; the Cape Symphony; Mosquito Story Slam: Bite It Live; and many others. All performance events are free.
