WELLFLEET, Mass. –Cape Cod National Seashore staff, researchers, and volunteers will close out the month of October with several programs focused on seashore resources. All programs are free and open to the public.Sharks and Seals: Cape Cod’s Dynamic Duo Walk will be held on Saturdays at 2:30 pm through October 19. Examine the relationship between sharks and seals and the roles they play in the balance of a healthy marine environment. One hour, up to one mile. Meet the ranger at Coast Guard Beach, at the end of Doane Road in Eastham.
Bats of Cape Cod, with SUNY-ESF bat researcher Sarah-Jayne Collins, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29 at 3 pm at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. This indoor program includes practical demonstrations of field survey equipment and discussion of local bat populations, threats to the species, current status, and ongoing research.
Beech Forest Beauty Walk occurs on Sunday mornings at 10 am through the end of October. This 90-minute guided stroll through Provincetown’s Beech Forest explores the forest habitat and may include displays of fall color. Reservations are required and may be made up to one week in advance by calling Province Lands Visitor Center at (508) 487-1256.
Discover Nauset Marsh is a guided one-mile walk held on Sundays at 2 pm through October 20. Meet the ranger at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham to explore the complex ecosystem and rich human history around the marsh.
On the Trail with the Classics will be held at 2 pm on October 17 and 31. These 45-minute programs are set in locales that inspired writers and poets, and include a one-mile walk. Share in the poetry of Mary Oliver on October 17 (meet at Province Lands Visitor Center), and enjoy Wyman Richardson’s descriptions of Nauset Marsh on October 31 (meet at the Salt Pond Visitor Center outdoor amphitheater).
Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown is open from 9 am to 5 pm through October 31. Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham is open year-round. Operating hours are 9 am to 5 pm through October 14, then 9 am to 4:30 pm.
