WELLFLEET, Mass. – Jack Frost has visited the Outer Cape a few times, and Old Man Winter is knocking at the door. Even so, November and December are great times to visit the national seashore. Beaches and trails remain accessible, except during severe weather. There are no fees, and Salt Pond Visitor Center is open to provide assistance with orientation and trip planning. During the upcoming holiday season, indoor programs will be offered at the visitor center, located at 50 Nauset Road, Eastham.

Explore and Learn tables will be available on weekends between November 23 and December 22, and daily from December 26 through January 1. Drop in between 10 am and 3 pm to learn about seashore resources through hand-on, self-guided activities. Topics vary, and may include furbearers, butterflies, horseshoe crabs, or sea turtles.

On Saturday, December 14 from noon to 2 pm, drop by Salt Pond to help trim our “Nature Tree” and enjoy some holiday cheer. Browse the museum and gift store, view the art exhibit, Three Artists Living in a Postcard, catch the seashore’s award-winning orientation film, Standing Bold, and take in the knockout view of Salt Pond, Nauset Marsh, and the Atlantic. The open house is sponsored by the national seashore, the park store at the visitor center, and Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

The film, The Endless Summer, will play at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 30. This 1966 classic surf film follows two California surfers as they travel the globe in search of perfect waves and perfect weather. Wall-E will bring family fun to the visitor center at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 29. Join Wall-E and EVE on a fantastic journey across the universe. Both films will play in surround sound on the theater-size screen at Salt Pond. Funding for the films is provided by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.
