National Park Week celebrates the 419 units of the National Park System, encouraging everyone to find a connection to the vast network of national parks which protect and preserve our national and cultural history. The staff at Big Thicket National Preserve will kick-off this year’s National Park Week celebrations on Saturday, April 20th, at 9:30 am with a hike along the Sundew Trail entitled “Pitcher Plants and Pines.” While on this one mile trek we’ll explore an Wetland Pine Savannah, discover how plants eat bugs, and track down as many wildflowers as we can find. After the walk kids can participate in a short arts-and-crafts session were everyone can make pitcher plant bug-catchers to bring home. This is a free program, with no registration required.

We would also like to take this opportunity to share our entire listing of ranger-led programs for the upcoming spring and summer. From canoe trips on Village Creek to full moon hikes and special summertime youth programs, park rangers will offer a variety of free programs this year.  Be sure to consult our website at https://www.nps.gov/bith/planyourvisit/calendar.htm, for more details about all our free programs.
