More than 200 people are expected to volunteer as Biscayne National Park hosts the National Parks America Tour event on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
In cooperation with Unilever, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the National Park Foundation, and Take Pride in America, the National Parks America Tour will engage local Boys & Girls Club kids, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, local high school students, Wal-Mart Associates and families in shoreline clean-ups, litter patrol, marine debris removal and other beautification projects.
Volunteers will receive free t-shirt and breakfast compliments of program sponsors Unilever and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. The National Parks America Tour will salute America’s Best—its volunteers—at the Great American Picnic after the work activities. The Great American Picnic is hosted by Dove® personal care, all® small and mighty™, Hellmann’s® mayonnaise, Best Foods®, Lipton® tea, Caress®, Women’s Degree Ultra Clear®, Men’s Degree Ultra Clear®, Ragu®, Slim-Fast® and Wish-Bone®.
Sponsored by Unilever, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the National Park Foundation, and Take Pride in America, the National Parks America Tour is projected to donate more than 250,000 volunteer manpower hours to the National Park Service, resulting in an annual in-kind donation of $4.25 million. The National Parks America Tour volunteer projects at Biscayne National Park have included redecking a ADA accessible fishing pier to beach clean-ups and installing sustainable site amenities. This is the sixth National Parks America Tour event held at Biscayne since 1999.
Meet at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center, located at 9700 SW 328th Street - adjacent to the Homestead Bayfront County Park in Homestead to register at 8:30 a.m. Service Hours Credit is available. Dress for the outdoors and wear sturdy shoes. Water, gloves, sunscreen and bug stray will be provided.
