Contact: Matt Johnson, 786-335-3679 HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA – Campers willing to brave seasonally heavy insect populations may camp for free in Biscayne National Park campgrounds on Boca Chita Key and Elliott Key. The park waives docking and camping fees annually from May 1 through September 30. During this time there is insufficient revenue to support the cost of collecting and processing fees. Generally from mid-April through November, winds are light and insect populations are thick. The most substantial insect populations occur from May through August. Regular fees of $20 for overnight boat docking and a campsite, or $15 per night for only a campsite, are enforced annually from October 1 through April 30. The campgrounds may be reached only by boat. The Elliott Key campground and marina reopened in mid-April, 2014.
