Chisos Mountains Backpacking Campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat gravel space to set up camp. A bear proof food locker is provided to store your food and water. No toilets, water, or amenities are provided. Be a steward of the land; during your visit to Big Bend, do everything you can to minimize your impact on the landscape.
DirectionsThe Laguna West 1 campsite is located approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from the Basin trailhead via the Laguna Meadow Trail (or 6.8 miles/11 km via the Pinnacles and Colima Trails). The site is located along a spur trail to the west of the main Laguna Meadow Trail. The spur trail is 200 yards (180 m) long and ends at site LW-3. Campsite SpecificsThe Laguna West area is an open chaparral woodland. The Laguna West 1 campsite is small, accommodating only 4 people and 2 tents. The site is secluded and located under a small grove of pinyon pines for good shade. Usual Trail ConditionsThe Laguna Meadow Trail is a gradual climb in elevation (1,600 ft/487 m). There are several sections of switchbacks. Views are great and the trail is usually in fine condition year-round. Water SourcesNone. There is NO water anywhere in the Laguna Meadows/Laguna West area. It is vital that you carry adequate water for drinking, cooking, and washing. Plan on at least 1 gallon (4 l)/24 hours/person. Campsite Photos |
