Campsite Specifics

Primitive roadside sites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat gravel space to set up camp next to your vehicle. No shade, toilets, or other amenities are provided. The use of generators is prohibited in the backcountry.

Maverick Camp 1 (MC-1) is a small campsite that can accommodate 2 vehicles, 8 people, no trailers, no horses. There is a gravel area for vehicle parking as well as two 16'x16' gravel tent pads.

Maximum vehicle length is 25'
No Trailers allowed.

Directions

Maverick Camp (MC-1) campsite is located off of Old Maverick Road, 12.6 miles from the southern end near Santa Elena Canyon, or 0.4 miles from the northern end near the Maverick Entrance Station.

Road Conditions

Old Maverick Road and the gravel access road are both generally well-maintained and accessible to most vehicles. Old Maverick Road becomes slick and rutted after heavy rains and may require high clearance or 4-wheel drive. Always check current road conditions with a ranger.

Vegetation

There is no shade at this site. Vegetation includes ocotillos, creosote bushes, and prickly pear.

Views

Maverick Camp is located on a plateau with an excellent 360 degree vista of the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert and distant mountains. To the east, across the Alamo Creek drainage, are views of Burro Mesa, the Chisos Mountains, and to the SE, Tule Mountain. To the west, you will see the lights of Terlingua in the distance.

Remarks

This site is conveniently located within a short drive to Terlingua. You are likely to have cell service at this site.
