Chisos Mountains Backpacking Campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat gravel space to set up camp. A bear proof food locker is provided to store your food and water. No toilets, water, or amenities are provided. Be a steward of the land; during your visit to Big Bend, do everything you can to minimize your impact on the landscape.
DirectionsBoulder Meadow Campsite #5 is located 1.75 miles (2.5 km) from the Chisos Basin trailhead via the Pinnacles trail. Campsite SpecificsCampsite Boulder Meadow 5 is approximately ¼ mile (400 m) from the other nearby Boulder Meadow campsites. BM-5 is the largest of the sites with 2 nice tent sites. Usual Trail ConditionsThe first 1/2 mile (.8 km) is steep, after which the trail becomes moderately difficult. The Pinnacles trail is well maintained and easy to follow all year. It is the steeper, yet shorter route to the High Chisos backcountry and the South Rim area. Water SourcesThere is NO water available in the Boulder Meadow area. The closest water is at the Basin Visitor Center spigot. Always carry adequate water for cooking, drinking, and washing (suggested 1 gallon (4 l)/person/24 hours). Campsite Photos |
