Contact: Mike Boren, 432-477-2236 WRITERS, WRANGLERS, RANGERS, AND MURAL PAINTERS Big Bend Natural History Association's 23rd Annual Pioneer Reunion will take place in the gymnasium of San Vicente School in Panther Junction, This year's speakers include cowboy and singer Craig Carter of the Spring Creek Ranch; Diane Garner of Houston, author of Letters from the Big Bend, a collection of letters from her grandfather who worked in the Big Bend and disappeared during the Mexican Revolution; Maisie Lee of Marathon, who lived in the park at Hot Springs during the late 40's and painted the murals in the Hot Springs Cabins run by Maggie Smith; and Dan Sholly, who grew up in the park when his dad, George Sholly, was Chief Ranger, and who went on to become Chief Ranger of Yellowstone National Park before retiring and becoming Deputy Director of Texas State Parks. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, there might also be a distinguished surprise speaker. Reservations are required, as seating is limited to 110 people, and can be made by calling 432-477-2236 with a credit card number.
