Big Bend National Park Reopens to Visitors Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River have re-opened to visitors following a closure since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations. Park roads, campgrounds, the Boquillas Port of Entry, and the Panther Junction, Chisos Basin, and Persimmon Gap Visitor Centers re-opened on October 17th. Forever Resorts operations, including the Chisos Mountains Lodge and Restaurant, are open for business as well. Limited road closures may persist, due to standing water, mud, and other weather-related conditions. "We are ecstatic to be back at work and welcome visitors to Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River," said Superintendent Cindy Ott-Jones. "Autumn is a particularly special season to enjoy all that both parks have to offer." |
