The annual review and comment period for the Superintendent’s compendium is now underway, with comments required to be received by February 19, 2008.
The Superintendent’s Compendium is a supplemental document that addresses specific management needs and concerns of an individual national park area. The Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River Superintendent’s Compendium for 2008 is now being reviewed and updated. The compendium is authorized by Title 16, United States Code, Section 3, and Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 1 through 7; these regulations are established by the Park Superintendent. The Superintendent’s Compendium is revised annually to continually address specific management needs of the park. These regulations apply in addition to the criminal laws of the United States and the regulations contained in Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
The following represent changes or clarifications of note for purposes of public review and notification:
- The use of a Segway or similar device by mobility impaired visitors is limited to the Window View Trail and the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail.
- Recreational Use Permits for entrance into the park may be issued at the entrance stations, or at any open visitor center in the park.
The full draft document is available on the park’s website.
