Big Bend National Park depends on dedicated volunteers to perform many duties throughout the year. Whether manning our visitor centers and campgrounds or patrolling our backcountry trails, volunteers protect our valuable resources and help visitors enjoy the wonders of Big Bend National Park.

If you would like to be considered for future vacancies, the Volunteer Coordinator keeps all applications for 3 years.

Volunteers are sought for the positions of visitor center host, campground host and maintenance. Big Bend volunteers are expected to commit to 3 months and work 32 hours a week in exchange for a RV site, electricity, water and reimbursed propane expenses. Housing options are limited, so volunteers should be committed to bringing their trailer or RV.

Most volunteer positions require references and a background check. Training is provided unless otherwise noted.

Big Bend separates its volunteer opportunities into quarterly sessions, with Fall and Spring being the seasons with highest visitation. Fall volunteer opportunities are from October through the end of January, and Spring opportunities are from February through the end of April. Summer opportunities are divided into 2 sessions; May through the end of July, and August through the end of October.
