Santa Fe Trail Traveling Trunk
The traveling trunk serves as a mini-museum helping bring history alive in the classroom. The trunk contains a variety of hands-on objects, books, videos and a resource guide (for a complete list of all the contents, please refer to the traveling trunk inventory sheet). The trunk is designed for primarily for 4th-6th grade classes within the Santa Fe Trail region including Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Lessons, activities and objects relate to the cultures and lifestyles of the 1840’s Santa Fe Trail people. This trunk may be used as an exhibit, part of lesson plans, learning group activities and in many other creative ways.

All reservations for the trunk are done by mail or fax. Reservation announcements are mailed to schools on Bent’s Fort’s mailing list in the spring for the following school year. The trunk is loaned for 15 days (5th through the 20th of the month) and the cost is $30.00 (schools borrowing the trunk are responsible for return shipping—generally at least $20 via UPS). If transport the trunk from the park to the school yourself, the cost is $20.00. Call (719) 383-5026 for reservations.
