Commemorative Events
Join the National Parks of Boston and our community partners for various commemorative events beginning in early June and continuing through the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill.
British Consulate-General Boston
Two Nations, One Battle: Bunker Hill in British and American Memory
Thursday, June 5, 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Bunker Hill Community College
Historians from the United States and United Kingdom will engage in a facilitated discussion reflecting on the Battle of Bunker Hill. Together, Authors Nathaniel Philbrick and Emma Hart will consider the lasting impacts of the battle on the Revolutionary War, its memory, and legacy from two nations’ perspectives. Dr. Brooke Barbier will moderate the discussion. This event is hosted by the National Parks of Boston with Bunker Hill Community College, Bunker Hill Monument Association, and Friends of the Charlestown Public Library.

Bunker Hill Flag Raising
Sunday, June 8, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument
Bunker Hill Associates holds their annual tribute to Charlestown Veterans with the morning raising of the Bunker Hill flag at Bunker Hill Monument. The flag is raised and lowered each day through June 17. The annual event is the community's official kick-off to the annual Battle of Bunker Hill Commemoration.
Bunker Hill Revealed: Archeological Investigation of the 1775 Redoubt
June 9 - June 20
Bunker Hill Monument Grounds
Join the City of Boston Archaeology and American Veterans Archaeological Recovery teams as they excavate a portion of the redoubt built on the night of June 16, 1775, triggering the start of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Excavations should reach the bottom of the trench dug that evening by the end of the first week. Visitors to the 250th events at the Bunker Hill Monument will have an opportunity to see the remains of the actual fortifications.

Naturalization Ceremony
Thursday, June 12, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold a naturalization ceremony at the Bunker Hill Monument. Two hundred-fifty new citizen candidates are anticipated to be sworn in and receive a Passport to their National Parks.
Following the ceremony, new citizens will be invited to plant the first 250 flags of the 1500 flags to create a Memorial Flag Garden.

Friday, June 13, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds
National Parks of Boston, in partnership with the British Consul-General Boston, British and Commonwealth Remembrance Project, Homebase, and the American Legion (Bunker Hill Post 26) will facilitate a community-engaged planting of 1,500 U.S. and British flags. This garden represents and pays tribute to the people who gave their lives as a result of the battle on June 17, 1775. British and U.S. service members, dignitaries and the public are welcomed to plant flags.

Flag Day Ceremony
Saturday, June 14, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Memorial Flag Garden, Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds
The National Parks of Boston, British Consulate, American Legion J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26, and Homebase will host a Flag Day Ceremony at the memorial flag garden on the grounds of the Bunker Hill Monument. This Flag Day ceremony honors Colonial and British lives lost on the battlefield on June 17, 1775.
Kick-off event to A Salute the U.S. Army
Saturday, June 14, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds
Closing out the Flag Garden Memorial Ceremony, the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Regiment Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and the Commander-in-Chief's Guard will provide both music and military drill demonstration on the northeast quadrant of the Bunker Hill Monument grounds before completing a procession to the Training Field where a flag retirement ceremony will take place.
Community Concert
Saturday, June 14, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument Grounds
The Bunker Hill Parade Committee will host its annual community concert on the Monument grounds. This year's event will feature the return of Jinty McGrath.

Bunker Hill Parade
Sunday, June 15, 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The Bunker Hill Parade Committee will host the annual Bunker Hill Parade. The parade commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill, the armed services, and the essence of American heritage while celebrating the historic neighborhood of Charlestown. The parade begins at the intersection of Vine and Bunker Hill Streets, passes down Main Street and concludes at the Charlestown Militia Training Field. Bunker Hill Grounds and the Massachusetts Gate entry to the grounds are prime viewing areas for the parade, which National Park Service staff march in annually.

Cornerstone Laying
Bunker Hill Monument Association in partnership with Grand Lodge of Masons of MA, Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, and Lafayette Society of MA
Monday, June 16, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Cornerstone Laying
Procession to the Monument begins at the Charlestown Navy Yard Gate 1 - 9:30 a.m.
The Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Company, American Friends of Lafayette, and the Massachusetts Lafayette Society in full regalia will proceed up Chestnut Street to the Bunker Hill Monument Grounds.
Echoes of Revolution: 200th Anniversary of the Bunker Hill Monument's Cornerstone Laying
Bunker Hill Monument - 10:00 a.m.
Michael Douglas "Daniel Webster" reenactor will read an edited version of Webster’s speech. "Lafayette" will give his historical remarks, followed by other guest speakers. Accompanying music from the original 1825 event will be performed.
Toasts and Odes
Old South Meeting House - 6:00 p.m.
Prominent dignitaries to speak toasts given at the 1825 celebration. Vocal quartet plus six strings and five brass and wind players.
Bunker Hill Ecumenical Service & Procession
Tuesday, June 17, 1:00 p.m.
Saint Francis de Sales Parish
An Ecumenical Service will be held prior to the 250th commemorative ceremony. The service will be followed by a procession to the Bunker Hill Burial Ground for a wreath-laying. After the wreath-laying, there will be a procession to Bunker Hill Monument.

Battle of Bunker Hill 250: Remembrance on the High Ground
Tuesday, June 17, 3:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Bunker Hill Monument and Grounds
The National Parks of Boston, American Legion J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26, and Bunker Hill Monument Association will host this ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. This event will be held on the grounds of the Monument and will feature local, national, and international figures. More event details to come.

Parking
Paid parking is available for all events at the Nautica Parking Garage located at 88 Constitution Road. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the Bunker Hill Monument.
