2024 Summer Seasonal Positions

  • Maintenance Worker summer seasonal positions This position performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. Announcement is on USAjobs.gov.
  • Interpretive Ranger GS-5 summer seasonal positions Full time 40 hours per week. Shared park housing or full-hookup RV pads may be available. Choose “Harrison, NE” as the duty station to apply for Agate. These individuals will work at the front desk of the visitor center, as well as on the trails, providing information to the visitors. They will also provide presentations about various topics related to Agate's long-term interpretive plan. Announcement period closed. Check back in Oct/Nov for Summer 2025 positions.
    *Please contact the park if you have re-hire at the GS-5 park ranger level or if you have a special hiring authority.

  • Park Guide GS-4 summer seasonal positions Full time 40 hours per week. Shared park housing or full-hookup RV pads may be available. Choose “Harrison, NE” as the duty station to apply for Agate. These individuals will work at the front desk of the visitor center, as well as on the trails, providing information to the visitors. They will also facilitate "pop-up" activities, support ranger presentations, and initiate short, informal talks with guests. Announcement period closed. Check back in Oct/Nov for Summer 2025 positions.

Youth can earn paid internships at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument!

Paid Internships

  • Many NPS sites host paid interns during the summer. Find out more information about internships and what parks are hosting them this year.
  • Interns are youth up to age 30. Veterans qualify for these programs up to age 35.
  • Agate Fossil Beds will host a YES intern during the Summer of 2024! (May 13 - Aug 2). This YES (Youth Empowerment Steward) internship is for any youth with a permanent disability who has at least a hobby-level interest in birding. They will help our park establish accessible birding kits for visitors. They will also support accessibility initiatives throughout our park. Check out more info and apply by April 5th!
