Park Status during COVID-19 – Updated May 29, 2021

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of the Interior and state and local officials, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is open with some restrictions and facility closures in place. If you are not fully vaccinated, you must wear a mask in federal facilities including our visitor center.

Visitor Center

OPEN: The Visitor Center, including the Cook Collection: A Window Onto Lakota Life and the park movie, are open. People who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask while inside federal facilities.

Roads and Trails

OPEN: All park roads, trails and outdoor exhibits are open. NPS and DOI policy states that masks must be worn on trails by staff and visitors who are not fully vaccinated, when six foot social distancing cannot be maintained. Most of our trails are less than six feet wide, so keep this in mind when passing other groups.
