Bar Harbor, ME – The Homans Path and Ladder Trail on Dorr Mountain and Precipice and East Face Trails on Champlain Mountain in Acadia National Park are closed to public use until further notice, Superintendent Sheridan Steele announced today. These trails were damaged by rock slides that were the result of an earthquake, measured at a magnitude of 3.8 by the U.S. Geological Survey, at 8:07 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006. The Acadia National Park trail crew is working to make the trails safe and reopen them to the public as soon as possible. Some of the trails suffered substantial damage; it is anticipated that work on some of the trails may last until the summer of 2007 or longer. Visitors should use caution and watch for loose rocks on all trails and roads in the park. For more information, contact the park at 207 288-3338, extension 0.
