  Boaters enjoying many days of fun in Florida bay, keep those days safe by boating with care. Avoid getting into shallow water where your propeller might damage seagrass meadows and other bottom habitats.
  Running aground costs millions of dollars in fines, fees and repairs each year.  If you get in water that’s too shallow, stop your motor and trim it up.  Walk your boat to deeper water but never try to power off because this crates more damage. If you’re stuck, call a professional tow operator for help.  Keep your boating days safe and happy.

  The shallow seagrass habitat of Snake Bight, a popular fishing area near Flamingo recently became a poll and troll zone.  If you plan on making a trip to Snake Bight please remember that internal combustion motors may only be used in designated channels and the Jimmy’s Lake idle speed no wake area.  You’ll need a push pole, paddle or electric trolling motor to get around the rest of Snake Bight.
  It might take a bit more time to get around, but it’ll help protect those seagrass beds that make Snake Bight so popular with fishermen, and the fish!

  Fishing in Florida Bay near Flamingo will be a little bit quieter this season with the implementation of Everglades National Park’s first poll and troll zone in Snake Bight.  While boaters can still enjoy quick access via motor boat in Tin Can and Snake Bight channels and may use motors at idle speed in Jimmy’s Lake, the rest of this seagrass and mud flat paradise is now closed to combustion engines.
  So, be prepared to use your push pole, paddle or electric trolling motor.

  Everglades Sound Spot- Florida Bay Wildlife

  Spiny lobster, bonefish, sea turtles, dolphins and manatees are a few of the wild creatures who depend on the seagrass meadows of Florida Bay.  Seagrass is essential to the overall health of the spectacular estuary.  You can help protect it, from propeller damage by taking extra care while boating.  Take the online Eco Mariner course, consult your chart frequently, wear polarized sunglasses, and learn how tides and wind affect these shallow waters.
