Republic, Mo. – From Saturday, Aug. 8 through Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will observe the 165th anniversary of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek with special programs honoring the Union and Southern soldiers who died in the Aug. 10, 1861, battle for control of Missouri.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9, the Holmes Brigade living history group will present infantry firing demonstrations and soldier-life talks. Programs will be offered at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The battlefield’s artillery detachment will present artillery firing programs at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday only.
On Monday, Aug. 10, the battlefield will host a commemorative anniversary ceremony in front of the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Visitor Center at 10 a.m., featuring a Civil War color guard, the playing of “Taps” and remarks by guest speakers and battlefield staff.
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation will host a reception at the Visitor Center following the anniversary program.
Additionally, on Aug. 10 only, the coverlet that covered the body of Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon after his death in the battle will be displayed on the original Ray House bed where his body was laid.
