Planning where you are going to sleep and what you are going to eat are two important steps in trip planning. In the park, both eating and sleeping options are limited, but the surrounding communities offer a variety of lodging and restaurant options.
Eating
Everyone wants good food and a great night's rest while on vacation! Our gift shop has a selection of convenient food options including sandwiches, burritos, snacks and beverages. The nearby towns of Alamogordo and Las Cruces have a large variety of restaurants as well.
Sleeping
Looking for a place to stay? There are plenty of options in nearby Alamogordo, 13 miles (24 km) from the monument and Las Cruces, 50 miles (84 km) from the park. White Sands doesn't offer hotel accommodations or RV/car camping within the park; however, although currently closed, we do offer primitive backcountry camping in the heart of the dunes.
You'll also find many public and private campgrounds and RV parks within one hour's drive of the park. The closest public campgrounds are Oliver Lee State Park, about 24 miles (39 km) southeast, and Aguirre Springs Recreation Area, about 39 miles (63 km) southwest. In the summer, the Lincoln National Forest has several campgrounds in the Sacramento Mountains, about 40 miles (64 km) east of the park.
