Experience Voyageurs National Park in a whole new way and lend a hand at the annual Volunteer Rendezvous. The two-day volunteer blitz brings together park stewards from all over Minnesota while providing tangible project results for Voyageurs. On Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8, 2012, volunteers will team up with National Park Service staff to work on several priority conservation and maintenance needs for the park. Projects this year include planting native trees from the park's greenhouse along the new bike trail, gardening and maintenance work at the Ojibwe Ethno botanical garden, and trail clearing at the Black Bay Trail. Volunteers will be working primarily at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center near International Falls. Everyone is welcome; families and student groups are especially encouraged to participate. No experience is necessary. Park staff will provide instructions and tools. Join the Fun! The Rendezvous is a wonderful opportunity to experience the great Minnesota outdoors like never before and become a national park steward. Volunteers have the opportunity to explore Voyageurs' pristine lakes and towering boreal forests in their free time. There will be a guided night hike on Friday and canoes available to paddle Rainy Lake. VNPA hosts a free celebration dinner to thank volunteers and partners on Saturday evening at Sha Sha Resort. Volunteers are responsible for organizing their own lodging and meals (except for the free celebration dinner). Rooms are on hold at Thunderbird Lodge until August 15 and camping options are also available in and near the park. Register by September 3 |
