In honor and in celebration of Women's History Month, a program on "Women in the Military" will be presented at the Vicksburg National Military Park Visitor Center, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 2:00 pm. This program will feature Park Ranger Ray Hamel who will talk about women's participation in the American military from the American Revolution up to modern times. Guest speaker, First Lieutenant Veronica Peppers, will draw on her 24 years of experience with the Mississippi Army National Guard, and talk about modern women in the military. First Lieutenant Peppers, a native of Canton, MS, deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in 2003-2004, and completed a deployment to Afghanistan in 2011-2012. First Lieutenant Peppers has worked in administration, logistics, and chemical operations. She currently is a platoon leader in Detachment 1, Company A, 106 BSB, in Taylorsville, MS. First Lieutenant Peppers is a graduate of Jackson State University and has several military awards to include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, two army Achievement Medals, an Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and several other awards. First Lieutenant Peppers brings experience to what will prove to be an interesting talk on "Women in the Military".
