Park Conditions During Adaptive Recovery Plan
Vicksburg National Military Park is following guidance from the White House's Opening Up America Again initative, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Mississippi, and local public health authorities. Vicksburg National Military Park is increasing recreational access by opening the park tour road to vehicles. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.
Body TextThe White House guidance outlines the following three gating criteria:
Symptoms - Downward trajectory of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) reported within a 14-day period AND downward trajectory of COVID-like syndromic cases reported within a 14-day period.
Cases - Downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period OR downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period (flat or increasing volume of tests).
Hospitals - Treat all patients without crisis care AND robust testing program in place for at-risk healthcare workers, including emerging antibody testing.

Visitors will currently find fewer picnic tables in the park picnic areas. When using park picnic tables, we encourage visitors to take CDC recommended precautions for frequently touched surfaces, such as wiping them down with EPA approved sanitizing wipes, before and after use.

When arriving at Vicksburg National Military Park, visitors can locate a park brochure with self-guiding cell phone tour at the park fee station.

On the back of the park brochure is the self-guiding tour. A cell phone guided tour option is available by calling 601-262-2100. The phone will prompt you to dial the Tour Stop number indicated on the park brochure.
A second tour option is the American Battlefield Trust's Vicksburg Battle smartphone application (app) which can be downloaded by searching Vicksburg. After the Vicksburg Battle App is downloaded, the app will prompt the user to download the audio and video that accompanies the app. The application utilizes the tour stop names located on the park brochure, not the tour stop numbering system.
Licensed Battlefield Guided Tours can be scheduled through the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. To schedule a tour, visitors should call 1-800-221-3536 or 601-636-3827.
Visitors taking the tour will be given instructions on tour payment and guide link up. Guides will meet visitors in the VNMP Visitor Center parking lot and connect by phone. The guide will provide instructions, expectations, restroom availability, and safety information in the parking lot.
Currently, all Ranger-led and Living History programs conducted at Vicksburg National Military Park are suspended as part of the phased adapative recovery plan.
