Park Conditions During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Vicksburg National Military Park is following guidance from the White House COVID-19 Plan, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Mississippi, and local public health authorities. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic to determine when to increase access on a park-by-park basis.

Warren County COVID-19 Community Level is MEDIUM

Individuals are not required to wear masks in federal buildings.

As of March 4, 2022, CDC and TSA orders or directives require all individuals regardless of vaccination status to wear masks in indoor areas of all forms of public transportation conveyances, including buses.

As of January 26, 2022 Vicksburg National Military Park is open to the following access:
  • The park tour road except for damaged sections.
  • The Visitor Center.
  • USS Cairo Museum (Thursday-Sunday only.)
  • USS Cairo outdoor exhibit area.
  • Restrooms at the Visitor Center and USS Cairo.
  • Pedestrian access to the Vicksburg National Cemetery.
  • Grant Ave to the African American Monument and Sherman Circle.
Visitors will currently find fewer picnic tables in the park picnic area. When using park picnic tables, we encourage visitors to take CDC recommended precautions for frequently touched surfaces, such as wiping them down with EPA approved sanitizing wipes, before and after use.
  • All facilities are currently open.
  • Grant Avenue beyond the African American Monument including Grant Circle is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Union Avenue from Grant Avenue to the USS Cairo Museum is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Vicksburg National Cemetery is closed to vehicles and the area within the chain link fence is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Louisiana Circle is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
 

Visitor Services During COVID-19 Pandemic

When arriving at Vicksburg National Military Park, visitors can pick up a park brochure at the Visitor Center and/or fee station.

On the back of the park brochure is the self-guiding tour.

Free Apps

You can download the NPS App onto your mobile devices, such as phones or tablets. The NPS App is currently available for iOS- and Android-powered devices. It can be downloaded for free through the App Store and Google Play. There is self-guided tour on the app which follows the Tour Stop numbers indicated on the park brochure.

The American Battlefield Trust's Vicksburg Battle App which can be downloaded by searching Vicksburg. After the Vicksburg Battle App is downloaded, the app will prompt the user to download the audio and video that accompanies the app. NOTE: The application utilizes the tour stop names located on the park brochure, not the tour stop numbering system.
Licensed Battlefield Guided Tours can be scheduled through the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. To schedule a tour, visitors should call 1-800-221-3536 or 601-636-3827.

Visitors taking the tour will be given instructions on tour payment and guide link up. Guides will meet visitors in the VNMP Visitor Center parking lot and connect by phone. The guide will provide instructions, expectations, restroom availability, and safety information in the parking lot.
Currently, all formal Ranger-led and Living History programs conducted at Vicksburg National Military Park have resumed. All Ranger-led programs are conducted between May and September. Special programs are advertised through the park calendar or on the park's social media platforms.
