On December 6th, 2018 Vicksburg National Military Park will launch the first program of a winter and spring colloquium series. These discussions will offer participants and opportunity to become better acquainted with some of the park’s nontraditional stories and the challenges of resource preservation and management policies within the Military Park. The free programs are open to the public and will offered on the second Thursday of each month from December 2018 through May 2019. The schedule is as follows:
December 6th: The steam powered – ironclad warship in the American Civil War, and post war developments with Ranger Ray Hamel
January 10th: Superintendent’s Park Update with Superintendent Bill Justice
February 14th: Women in the Civil War with Park Guide Lela White
March 14th: John Wesley Powell, Civil War Soldier and Explorer with Ranger Scott Babinowich
April 11th: Pemberton Hoodwinked! The Great Feints of the Vicksburg Campaign with Ranger Andrew Miller
May 9th: The Cotton Rush: an Exploding Economy vs. an Imploding Nation with Licensed Battlefield Guide Michael Logue
These one-hour programs are free of charge and will begin at 5:30 PM in the park Visitor Center. The schedule is subject to change and any changes will be posted to the park website and on facebook at www.nps.gov/vicksburgNPS.
