The staff at Vicksburg National Military Park invites the public to a celebration of National Park Week 2013 and Junior Ranger Day. National Park Week is a presidentially proclaimed celebration in recognition of America's National Parks, and runs from April 20th to April 28th. This year's theme, "Did you know…?" gives parks an opportunity to showcase what makes them significant, special, or unique. Vicksburg, the turning point of the American Civil War, is certainly all three. The Junior Ranger program encourages America's youth to explore, protect, and learn about the National Parks.

In honor of National Park Week and Junior Ranger Day, Vicksburg National Military Park will hold a Junior Ranger Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27th from 9:30 am till 3:30 pm at the U.S.S. Cairo Museum in the park. There will be light refreshments, ranger talks, hands-on children's activities, military drills for the kids, U.S.S. Cairo tours and Living History weapons demonstrations throughout the day.

Admission to the park during April 20-26 is free. On Saturday, April 27, admission is $8.oo per vehicle, and all applicable Vicksburg National Military Park and National Park Service annual passes are accepted. There is no additional charge for Junior Ranger Day activities. The park is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily and any questions regarding entrance fees or programs can be directed to the park at 601-636-0583.

We invite you to bring your family out to celebrate this special week by experiencing Your National Park.
