Two park visitors look for birds through binoculars.

Over 227 species of birds have been observed within Valley Forge National Historical Park. Some of the best areas to observe birds are on Mount Joy, along Valley Creek and the Schuylkill River, and in meadows throughout the park.

Bird Walks

NOTE: Bird walks have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

See or hear different species in a variety of seasons and habitats. Walk is intended for birders of all levels, beginners welcome and encouraged. Each program lasts approximately 2 hours and covers 1.5 miles walking. The walk is mostly along paved trails but includes short sections of gravel and grass. Good walking shoes are recommended. Binoculars, hat, water, bug spray and sun protection optional. Meets at Artillery Park.

Walks are weather dependent and may be canceled in the event of electrical or ice storms. Please check the Valley Forge Park Alliance website for updates before heading to the program.
