Tourism to Valley Forge National Historical Park contributes $44.8 million to local economy

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — A new National Park Service report shows that 1.9 million visitors to Valley Forge National Historical Park in 2024 spent $28.9 million in communities near the park. That spending had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $44.8 million.

“People come to Valley Forge National Historical Park to discover history, connect to nature, and recreate surrounded by scenic beauty. Their activities in and around the park end up supporting the economy,” said Superintendent Rose Fennell. “We’re proud that Valley Forge National Historical Park supported 325 jobs and generated $44.8 million in revenue to our neighboring communities in 2024.”

“Valley Forge National Historical Park is a true gem in Montgomery County,” said Mike Bowman, President & CEO of the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. “It’s a nationally and internationally recognized site that plays a vital role in our tourism economy. We’re proud to partner with the park and have our Welcome Center inside their Visitor Center. Kudos to Superintendent Rose Fennell and her team for delivering an outstanding visitor experience.”

The National Park Service report, 2024 National Park Visitor Spending Effects, finds that visitors spent $29 billion in communities near national parks. This spending provided $18.8 billion in labor income and $56.3 in economic output to the U.S. economy. The lodging sector had the highest direct contributions with $11.1 billion in economic output. Restaurants received the next greatest direct contributions with $5.7 billion in economic output.

An interactive tool is available to explore visitor spending, labor income, and total economic contribution by sector for national, state and local economies. Users can also view year-by-year trend data. The interactive tool and report are available on the NPS website.
