Roosevelt, AZ - Tonto National Monument, along with other national park units, national wildlife refuges, national forests and public lands managed by Bureau of Land Management will waive their entrance fees in celebration of Presidents' Day on February 20, 2017. Hike up to the Lower Cliff Dwelling, one-mile roundtrip, explore the museum, and enjoy the scenic views of Roosevelt Lake. In partnership with the National Park Service, Western National Parks Association is offering a 15% discount in the bookstore.
Tonto National Monument protects two cliff dwellings built by the Salado people over 700 years ago. Established as a national monument in 1907 by President Teddy Roosevelt, the cliff dwellings were part of the early archeological preservation movement in America. The Monument is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for December 25. Directions and additional information are available on the Monument's website, or you may call (928) 467-2241.
