A Day of Service at Fort George Island

Jacksonville, FL—How are you observing National Public Lands Day this year? Consider heading over to Kingsley Plantation on Saturday, September 26, 2015 for a day of service and celebration.  In partnership with Fort George Island Cultural State Park, the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve will be hosting opportunities for conservationists of all ages to restore and beautify their public lands from the Kingsley Plantation to Point Isabel. Throughout the day, everyone is invited to join the Park Services for a celebration at Kingsley Plantation, where there will be music; kids' activities including creating binoculars and planting seeds;and even a musket firing!

Available service projects:

9:30 AM –11:00 AM –Point Isabel Trail Clean-Up

Clear overgrowth, brush, and waste from the trail. Tools and waste bags will be provided.

9:30 AM –11:00 AM –Groovy Gardeners

Help maintain the historic crops grown at Kingsley Plantation. Garden tools will be provided.

1:30 PM –3:00 PM –Beach Clean-Up

Beautify the shores along Kingsley Plantation by removing debris and waste. Supplies will be provided.

To register for all service projects:

Visit the Volunteers-in-Parks registration booth at Kingsley Plantation on the day of the event

Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and have a consent form signed by a parent/legal guardian to participate.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for registration and safety briefing.

What to wear:

-Light, breathable clothing

-Long sleeves and pants

-Closed-toe shoes

What to bring:

-Water bottle

-Sunblock and insect repellent

-Pack snacks and your lunch

-Work gloves

All events are free and open to the public.
