100 Years of NPS at TRNP

On August 25th, 2016 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the National Park Service Organic Act. With this piece of legislation, the National Park Service was born. We are hosting several special events during the week of August 25, 2016 to commemorate our 100th birthday.

South Unit Events

Thursday August 25th

Centennial Celebration and TRNP Quarter Launch
Painted Canyon Overlook

Speakers to include North Dakota Congressman Kevin Cramer, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven, National Park Service Deputy Regional Director for the Midwest Region Patty Trap, and author Clay Jenkinson

Following the event, the US Mint will release the newly designed Theodore Roosevelt National Park Quarter.

Elkhorn Ranch Guided Tour

Caravan to the park's Elkhorn Ranch Unit. Explore the site with Eileen Andes, chief of Interpretation. Caravan leaves the South Unit Visitor Center at 9:00am Mountain Time.
High-clearance vehicle, sturdy shoes, and a sack lunch are recommended.

Saturday, August 27th

Wilderness Hike
Explore the badlands with Ranger Mat and visit some of the more remote areas of TRNP. Bring plenty of water and wear sturday shoes.
8:30am Central Time - Depart from Oxbow Overlook
Total mileage of the hike will be between 5 and 7 miles.
