Thing to Do
Mount Washburn Bike Trail

Between Canyon Village and Tower Junction hardy cyclists can ride three miles to the top of Mount Washburn. Access is from the Chittenden Road parking area to the summit of Mount Washburn. This is a steep ride on a dirt and gravel road with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet in 2.5 miles. Roads will not be free of cars during these times: bicyclists will encounter employees, contractors, plows, and other administrative vehicles on the roads. Bicycles are NOT permitted on the hiking trail between the summit and Dunraven Pass parking area.
Alerts: Be alert for bears: both black and grizzly bears forage in this area. Ride with bear spray, have it accessible, and know how to use it. Federal regulations require you to stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves, and at least 25 yards (23 m) away from bison and all other wild animals.
This is a very steep trail with a wide dirt and gravel surface. It could be accessed by a hand-cycle but the elevation gain is 1500 ft (457m) over 2.7 miles (1.68km). Watch for service vehicles that use the road. Qualified service dogs are permitted but travel with dogs in Yellowstone is not without risks. Please be aware that having a service animal with you may put you at increased risk for confrontations with wolves, bears, and other wildlife.
